Trees for a new future in Europoort

14 September 2009

On Saturday September 5, 2009 a new Green Initiative was kicked off in Europoort.

We launched the Europoort Energy Awareness Program for all employees of the plant during our yearly family day.

After a brief welcome and introduction of the Factory Manager the employees’ kids were invited to plant trees in the front yard of our plant. They were all very enthusiastic. After this the kids lost a lot of energy playing together and everybody enjoyed a good Barbeque with entertainment.

This kick-off was the start of an Energy awareness program that is part of Europoort’s strive for Operational Excellence and to become the Best in Class on all aspects of our business. The ‘low hanging fruit’ is mostly captured and now we are targeting the more difficult ones. Just like safety or the elimination of waste, we can only capture this ‘high hanging fruit’ within the right business culture and Mindset & Behaviours from all of us. Together with the support of OSG, all our employees will receive a introduction training about energy consumption and their role in eliminating the waste of energy. This training and program will help us to develop this important culture.

The BU IPS Netherlands team, including Europoort, was already able to eliminate a big percentage of our energy consumption. Among our Green initiatives are new trailers for three high stacking of drums, replacement of old afterburners with an RTO reducing energy and smell complaints, new air compressors, improved and new Standardized Operating Procedures, improved machine settings, Performance Management Structure on Energy and an Energy Savings Team. We will keep initiating new ideas.

The whole Europoort staff commits it selves to reduce energy and keeps working on a better environment continuously. The trees planted by our kids in the front yard of our factory will remind us every day on our commitment to Green!
